What’s New with Us. Turns Out a Lot.

Are Hearts Are Full with the Changes Upon Us.

Are Hearts Are Full with the Changes Upon Us.

What’s New with Us. Turns Out a Lot.

We’re in for some exciting changes this fall- ones that we’ve been prepping for these past several years.

What kind of changes are we talking about?

6 new products, including 2 new sunscreens.  2 new packaging changes. 2 new brands. 1 new identity.

1 New Beginning.

There is a lot of unpacking to do in those couple of sentences and we promise to reveal things as we can.  In the interim, I thought I’d take a little time in this blog post to give some history and context about these upcoming changes. For today, let’s start with…

1 New Identity.

We’re actually in our tenth year of operations and we’ve definitely evolved over the years.  Have you ever seen those articles that show what companies like Google or Amazon looked like when they first started? I always find them fascinating because it’s easy to forget the history of a brand and the little stepping stones it took to get to where it is today.

Our First Look- A little Edgier Indeed

Our First Look- A little Edgier Indeed

In the beginning, we were all about “Less Chemicals. More Efficacy. Please”.  I thought I was pretty savvy with the added ‘please’, in italics no less. How Canadian of us.  Our thinking at the time was to move away from the cosmetics with 40-50 ingredient lists.  We knew we could deliver products that were simplified at their core but delivered efficacy so to speak because we chose great actives and used them at high concentrations.  The green beauty movement was just nascent in early 2008 but we were already starting to think about the massive amounts of chemicals that people were being exposed to every day.  Both my parents were concerned- my mother as a dermatologist and just seeing how sensitized people’s skin became.  My father as a retired high risk obstetrician and endocrinologist and examining everything through the litmus test of safety of whether a pregnant woman should be using it.

We actually started with three products, including our AM Hydrating Whip.  We didn’t market it as a sunscreen at the time but it was the earliest iteration of our current Every Morning Sun Whip SPF 25. People’s response to it was overwhelming- they loved the aesthetics of it and the way it made their skin look.  What ultimately converted people though was the story behind sunscreens.  Once they learned about the gap in safety and efficacy between many commercially available sunscreens and ours- people could not believe it was the first time they were hearing this story and they wanted to share it with everyone they knew.

Four years later, while working on our Simply Zinc Sun Whip SPF 30, we realized we were on to something.  We had built an expertise in making sunscreens that was unparalleled in the industry and we had the will and the way to continue.  Hence, we became CyberDERM-The Sunscreen Company TM.  By 2016, we had 5 cosmeceuticals and 2 Sun Whips that could provide the staples in skincare that any professional could recommend to their clientele.

Our Current Look and Name

Our Current Look and Name

We’d also been working behind the scenes on continuing our research in developing the absolute best sunscreens in the world.  That was our ethos and what we’ve been working at non-stop.  We’ve developed a sunscreen with the highest potential UVA protection factor from any that we’ve seen.  Unfortunately, until Health Canada and the FDA approve the widespread use of Tinosorb S and M, that formula will not be launching in North America.

We’ve also developed a patent pending innovation that we think is truly a game-changer.  Launching in all of our new sunscreen formulas going forward, we’ve developed a proprietary way of dramatically increasing the UVA protecting factor of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide sunscreens.  We’re calling it Bio UVA Ultra- best of all it uses a simple, Ecocert certified organic material that is sustainably developed and controversy free.

We’re launching two new sunscreens this fall under a new brand name.  These beauties are worth their own post in its entirety so we won’t go into much more detail for now.  With all of our efforts in developing sunscreens and with the introduction of two new brands, we thought it was time to go all out and make it clear what we are about.  Going forward, we are going to be known as The Sunscreen Company TM.  As The Sunscreen Company TM we can’t wait to present to you three brands made with love and fourteen products full of protection and care.  Thanks for sticking with us through this transformation.

All the best,

Sara

Sunscreen Stories

This time of year at CyberDERM, we are always trying to push the message that everyone should be wearing sunscreen, although many of us are currently in the dead of winter.  It’s sometimes a hard sell- it is not on people’s radar as something important.  Hopefully, our pushes to educate people about the presence of UVA all year round and the need to protect your skin will change that.
Simply Zinc Sun Whip- A Great Sunscreen
Shedding Some Light on What Makes a Good Sunscreen
Of course, then you hear horror stories like the aerosol sunscreen recall this summer that has recently been expanded by Health Canada.  Banana Boat’s aerosol products were linked this summer with users catching on fire due to a flaw in the valve distributing too much product.  This is always a bit of a gray area for us in writing about it- on the one hand we don’t like to bash our competition, that’s not in keeping with our philosophy about being a friendly company to do business with.  At the same time- we got into making sunscreens because of some of the flaws we saw in the products out in the market.  So for this month’s blog- we are going to share some of what we see as problems with sunscreens and how we tried to fix them in our formulas.  If you would like to take what we say with a grain of salt, considering our vested interest, we understand completely and there are no hard feelings!
Our own horror stories:
Like everyone else, I personally appreciate convenience so I will admit to having bought a can of aerosol sunscreen from the pharmacy 3 years ago.  I was going to the beach and I wanted something easy to apply to my legs (for my face, I still always use our products every day so that part is covered).  I kept it in my purse (new Michael Kors silver satchel) until I felt a wet spot on its underside.  It turns out that the cap had come off and sprayed most of the contents of the bottle into my purse. My phone was kaput but that is to be expected.  I was shocked though to see that the sunscreen had completely stripped the paint off of my bag!  I kept thinking this is meant to sit on your skin? Uggh.  Our chemist explained that a lot of the solvents used in these types of products to keep the actives in solution can be pretty heavy duty.  My thoughts though- are they meant to dissolve your skin? We had a client who shared a similar story.  She was an owner of an apple orchard and kept a bottle of spray sunscreen out for pickers to use on her deck.  She noticed though after a while that wooden floorboards of where people would spray their legs was starting to rot away.
To me- those are cautionary tales.  We always talk about the dangers of chemicals like oxybenzone, parabens, other Dirty Dozen chemicals, and even avobenzone.  Sometimes though, the issues of chemicals being hormone disruptors, or creators of Free Radicals, or even allergens- all seem a bit abstract.  It’s not always clear how those issues affect us- sometimes you literally cannot visualize it until it happens to you in some form.  These stories on the other hand almost poetically drive home the message that you need to be careful about what you apply to your skin.  They make those concepts more real.  You wouldn’t spray paint thinner all over your body and so the idea of not using a product that dissolves metallic paint clicks for me.
I also do not want to give the idea that it’s just spray sunscreens that are the issue.  Lotions can have similar issues and that is why you really need to take a look at what is in your cosmetics overall.   My litmus test is always- would I recommend this product to a pregnant friend?  We are so vigilant about what we put on our bodies when we think about how it could affect an unborn child.  If we thought that way every day, we would be living on the safe side with nothing to lose.  Without being preachy or accusatory, that is what we try to explain to people and hopefully it will click for more and more people.
Go through the products in your bathroom and see whether they pass your test! Also feel free to share with us any of your own stories.
All the best,
Sara

Beauty is all about Skin Tone

How to get beautiful Skin-Simply Zinc it.
How to get beautiful skin: Simply Zinc it and other tools

Never has a truer word been spoken before…beauty is all about skin tone. The symmetry of the face used to be the in vogue criteria for what was considered beautiful but now researchers are saying that good skin trumps good bone structure. Click here for the article from the Times in the UK. The good news… beautiful skin is really attainable, getting better cheek bones is a bit trickier.

Our Product Line in Two Words

With the introduction of our Nu-shroom Hydrafill Serum, our product line is now standing at a lucky seven in total.  We do a lot of visits to tradeshows and retail partners and I can see that sometimes it can be overwhelming to build a skincare regimen with all of the options.  How do you use the Emblica Light and Bright versus the PM Anti-Age? What should I use for hydration the Nu-Shroom or the H20?  We do have our regimen packages to help simplify but I thought it would be helpful if I could reduce the benefits of each of our non-sunscreen products to two, very succinct words.  Well, there will be a little bit of description because let’s face it- I’m a little on the wordy side.
I’m going to focus on our 5 cosmeceuticals. If you want to know which of our Sun Whip’s is right for you, then go to this very aptly named post, “Which Sun Whip is right for You?”
PM Anti-Age: Anti-Age, Brighten.
Our PM is the most fully loaded of all of our anti-aging cosmeceuticals.  If you think about the aging process in the skin, there are multiple factors that contribute to it.  Our PM Anti-age tackles all of them conceptually at a cellular level.  This is definitely our best all-round anti-ager. Its second benefit of brightening comes from the use of Turmeric.  It’s nice because while the other ingredients are working behind-the-scenes, the turmeric is delivering visible results with a brighter more luminous complexion.
H20 Hydration: Hydrate and Calm
Our H20 is still an anti-aging moisturizer.  It’s got actives like Tetrapeptides, Resveratrol and Ectoins that all help to keep collagen, elastin and epidermal cells in tip top working shape.  However, they all also help calm inflammation at a cellular level and at a visible level in terms of redness and irritation.  I think of our H20 like a down comforter for the face- it shields you from the sometimes, big bad world outside and keeps you cozy and comfortable within.
Nu-Shroom Hydrafill Serum: Plump and Hydrate
Serums by their very nature target their actives past the superficial dead layer of the skin to the living epidermis below. Our Nu-Shroom is excellent and delivers instant hydration past the skin’s surface, which is why it plumps as well.  The best visual I can offer is of a raisin regaining its moisture to go back to its initial grape shape.
Exfoliant Reveal: Smooth and Soften
Our Exfoliant dissolves the dead layer of skin that we all have. Twenty minutes after applying our Exfoliant I will give my face a gentle massage just using my fingertips. Typically, you will feel the dead skin pill away and come off.  I do not think that anything works as well as an exfoliant with a good amount of glycolic acid in keeping the skin smooth.
Emblica Light and Bright: Lighten and Brighten
All of our product names give clues as to what they do, but this one is pretty overt as to what it is about right in its name.  We designed this product to treat pigment in all of its incarnations.  For those with hyperpigmentation or melasma, this product works to halt those overworking melanocytes in their tracks.  It also tells overly reactive skin to calm down, which also stops you skin from over producing melanin as a defensive mechanism.  We added Turmeric to this formula as well to help provide overall brightening as well but it does not have the same anti-aging focus as our PM Anti-Age.

You may be wondering how do you fit in all these little gems with their different benefits into one 24 hour period.  I always say that it’s great to start with a regular regimen- one that you have set for yourself, hopefully with the help of a great skincare consultant.  However, once you get to know your skin, understand its needs, desires and dreams- it’s about going beyond the regimen.  You learn to treat it symptomatically based on current pressing needs but then also be strategic about your long term anti-aging plan.

Of course, we are always here to be your skincare sherpas- if you need us!  Write us or comment below and we will do our ever lovingly best.

All the best,

Sara Dudley

A Thirty Something’s Medicine Cabinet

I have my 30th birthday approaching any day now and I feel pretty fortunate that I am generally happy with the way my skin looks.  You start to see some of those first signs of aging in your late twenties with some initial wrinkles starting to creep up, some discolouration, more overall dryness.  You are also just less able to abuse your skin- you can’t hide long late nights anymore. Fortunately, I feel like my skincare routine is keeping me in good stead.  I’ve finally found the right balance between dewy and oily, between soft and over-exfoliated, between treating my skin and being raw and irritated.
So for anyone who might like to know- here is what my actual skincare routine looks like.  You might think that CyberDERM products are heavily represented and that is true.  It’s a result of extreme bias, convenience and pure devotion.
Morning:
1.     Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser, $75

I’ve never been a fan of complicated cleansers before- I was strictly a Cetaphil advocate. I thought keep it simple for simple functions and save your products and your dollars for more important things.  However, when we were first looking into bringing Tata Harper into the store, I tried this cleanser and it changed my mind. The analogy for this cleanser is like  getting a freshly mixed pina colada in a high end resort. There is no gunky pre-mixes involved- every ingredient is fresh, pronounceable and from this earth.  It softens and exfoliates my skin so I don’t have to work as hard with other products for the same result.

2.     Nu-Shroom Hydrafill Serum, $95
I was the first guinea pig for this product (no actual guinea pigs or bunnies were tested on- we promise!) so I have been using it since December.  I’m not really its target demographic.  It works wonders on dry, mature skin with some wrinkling and gives a real instant oomph.  I like it for its long-term hydration though.  I’ve been using it in the mornings because it gives such a smooth surface for my make-up. Your skin looks dewy and catches the light around my orbital bone especially.  I have not been using a make-up highlighter because it has been doing such a good job.
3.     Every Morning Sun Whip SPF 25, $38
I’m pretty religious about using my sunscreen every day- I just make it my routine so I don’t really think about it.  With other sunscreens before I joined the company, I’d get turned off by the smell and the texture.  There is a dissonance between smelling like the beach when you are heading for the office in the dead of winter.  Aside from the no-sunscreen smell, I also like that our sunscreen actually feels good for my skin aside from its protective qualities.  Zinc is such a powerful anti-inflammatory- I find it soothing and helps calm any redness.  Our formula also does not feel occlusive so I don’t worry about it exacerbating my mild acne.
Night:
1.     Whenever I come home, I typically cleanse my face right away.  I just think you should get the city off of your skin with its dirt and pollution.
2.     H20 Hydration or Emblica Light and Bright, $60 and $70 respectively
CyberDERM PM Anti-AgeAfter cleansing, I immediately apply either one of these products as an after sun treatment.  I feel like your skin gets in an excited state by the sun and pollution. Imagine all of those wandering electrons in the form of free radicals .I like to quiet down these reactions to zero with a product with strong and stable anti-oxidants.  Both products have superb anti-oxidants to calm the skin and just generally soothe it as well.  For this purpose, you can use the products interchangeably and is about your personal preference.  They have other primary purposes though that have specific benefits to them otherwise.
3.     PM Anti-Age, $115
I should be getting back into my routine of using a prescription retinoid at night.  I’ve been using one since I was 13 for acne. It’s hard once you have stopped to start again.  It’s like exercise- you have to get over the initial hump and then it is good for you in the long run.  I’ve been pretty happy with just using my PM Anti-Age though.  It just gives my  skin tone a bright even look to it.  My fiancé is hooked on it for the same reason.  We’ll see- for now I am liking my PM just fine.
Body:
1.     Tata Harper Regenerating Body Oil
I’ve been forgoing my olive oil bath so that I don’t have to deal with a messy tub.  This is a lovely blend of oils and feels luxurious but not greasy.
2.     Exfoliant Reveal and Emblica Light and Bright
I still suffer from Keratosis Pilaris (red bumps) on my arms and this combination has done a better job of keeping it at bay than more medicated versions.  The Exfoliant Reveal keeps my skin soft and the Emblica Light and Bright calms anti-inflammation for the red component and keeps them from developing into brown spots from the trauma.

What does your regimen look like?  I don’t think it has to look that different when you’re 30 vs. 40 vs. 50.  The fundamentals are pretty similar and certainly if you focus on prevention- you have a lot less work ahead of you.

All the best,

Sara Dudley

Powerful-Face-

Talk of Trends in the Skincare Industry

One of the biggest tradeshow events for personal care, In-Cosmetics, wrapped up in Paris.  People in the industry flock to the event every year from all over the globe.  Us CyberDERM folk have yet to attend since we frequent a lot of the medical/dermatology meetings but it was practically impossible to get any one of our suppliers, chemists or lab specialists on the phone that week! Who could resist one of the most important shows with a little extra time to tour la Paris!
I did manage to attend one of our supplier’s symposium days this month.  They are one of the largest raw material providers in the world and so their corporate vision trickles its way down to what makes it to the shelves for consumers- whether they’re our products or L’Oreal’s.  Of course, they also respond to the trends that they see in the industry and shape their offerings accordingly.  It’s a reciprocal loop!
Here at CyberDERM we are not necessarily interested in being trendy.  We absolutely keep up with the science but for us, the precepts behind beautiful and protected skin are fairly constant.  We are more interested in hand-picking the best active and non-active ingredients out in the world.  In the event though that you are interested in what the industry considers the trends, here are some of the big things we discussed.
The Evolution of the BB, to the CC, to the DD and then the EE.
The discussions surrounding the BB creams and their next generations of products was amusing.  You have venerable PhD’s scratching their heads and asking what’s a DD cream?  No one in the room knew what an EE cream was going to be but it is certain it will come.  Really, it will be for the first marketing team to plant their flag and declare an EE cream is… an Energizing Eraser cream…. Evaporating Elixir  cream… Eerie Everyday cream.  It’s clear that these are mostly a marketing convention since not even industry specialists can clearly say what the differences are from an ingredient perspective.  Who knows maybe at CyberDERM we will just preempt the end by creating our own ZZ cream and put the conversation to bed.
 Sustainability
As you might hope, this is a big topic of concern for everyone in the supply chain.  It goes to show the power of the consumer since a lot of the changes that we see are as a result of your concerns and demands.  With social media, consumer’s level of education about ingredients and their products is exponentially better than even a couple of years ago.  I know that it has shaped our conversations with our suppliers- we are up front with all of them about our need to keep our ingredient lists ‘clean’.   In other words, don’t show us the most fantastic miracle ingredient if it is preserved with a Dirty Dozen.  The EU’s ban on any animal testing will also dramatically change the landscape since many of the large raw material companies are European.   Before, much of the initial testing done by a raw material company is confidential but we will now know 100% that a European company’s products will truly be cruelty-free!  Wunderbar!
Not Rooney Mara but still fierce.
Fashion
Raw material companies do try to keep up with the au courant trends.  We saw a lot of pictures of mermaid braids and beachy waves- you’d better believe the industry is hard at work delivering the products that will get you those desired looks.  Even pictures of a neo-gothic Rooney Mara were presented with a full inspiration board about how to formulate the full palette and feeling for those looking for dark romanticism.  One had better just hope that you all do not abandon your braids for chignon’s over night or brands are going to be left with products that are just not quite right!
In the end, there are always going to be brands that create the trends and others that are left chasing them.  We are pretty happy with our version of a classic type of quality- certainly not out-dated but on point,

with beautiful skin always being of the moment.

All the best,
Sara Dudley

Comparison-of-Sara-s-Lips-with-Plumper

Serums that go Plump…

Here at CyberDERM, we’re in the lab like mad Chemistry majors testing our latest product in the pipeline…a serum.  Our loyal fans have been asking for one for a while since we all appreciate a little extra hydration.  We wanted to take it to the next level though and do something that has an instantaneous kick to it.  Our vision was that you could be getting ready for date night and pow- our serum gives you great looking skin and a little je-ne-sais-plump. We also wanted people to be able to use it for long term anti-aging benefits too, but some short term visible effects also give you extra incentive.
Turns out, that is harder to do than you would think.  At first, we looked into light-refracting crystals that give the optical illusion of blurring wrinkles.  We also investigated an active that claimed to bind water from the surrounding air and draw it into the skin.  Turns out that active just reacted to the water in the product and did nothing once it got to the skin and the crystals have been done and lack the wow-factor.  So back to the drawing board….
We then stumbled on this little magic mushroom- not that kind, we swear! This one is called the Silver Ear mushroom and it is meant to be a natural form of hyaluronic acid (again, not that kind of acid).  Hyaluronic acid is what we all have naturally in our skin and is also contained in certain types of dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane.  It naturally binds 1000x its weight in water, which is why it is a natural plumper.  It’s natural, it’s effective…we’ve considered naming the product Magic Mushroom because it is such an ingenious little ingredient but that probably will not fly from a marketing point of view.  If you come into the store once its launched though, and give us a little wink when you ask for it, we’ll know what you are talking about.
We then added a healthy dose of two other natural extracts, one a form of Irish moss and the other a pretty flower called portulaca.  The Irish moss gives you long-term hydration that you really do continue to feel long after you’ve applied it to your skin.  The portulaca gives you a nice tightening effect.  If only you could walk through fields of mushrooms and natural flora and get the same effect!
Lips Pre and Post Serum Application
Well, we did the heavy-picking and so far are pretty pleased with our initial testing.  We’ve had 12+ willing volunteers and we keep gaping at how good the results are with the pictures taken.  I have to admit I couldn’t wait to be the first one to try it once we finalized this latest version.  Here are my pics of my lips where I applied it (taken on my Blackberry so not a perfect comparison, our medical photographer would not approve!)- you really can see some instant plumping.  It looks like I had just gotten fillers injected and was a little swollen. Since then, I’ve been using it twice daily and I’ve been really happy with how healthy my skin looks.  People with mature skin have shown the greatest improvement with their wrinkles actually looking distinctly blurred.
We are just waiting on some final testing to make sure we are good to go.  We plan on launching it in the spring- which is fitting, what with the beautiful bounty of flora that it contains.  We are still throwing around names for it (other than Magic Mushroom, which has already been vetoed).  Throw any suggestions our way- we need help! We’ll let you know the launch date too once it is confirmed so you can try it for yourself.
All the best,
Sara

I Don’t Want a Lot for Christmas…

The CyberDERM staffers are pretty modest gals but like all of us, they have their eyes on a couple of key things this Christmas.  They give the gift of beautiful skin everyday so for this month- we thought it would be fun to see what is on their holiday wish list and near and dear to their hearts during the season.

Karina:

lesson I’ve learned this year: Be thankful for the negative things and people in your life because they teach you what not to do and how not to react to situations. I have learned patience and acceptance.

Karina-Trimming the Tree

gift I would most like to receive: 2 plane tickets to California for Christmas and New Year!

my favorite cyberderm product: the Every Morning Sun Whip! The H2o Hydration comes in pretty close too.

favourite other product:  This is hard I have so many but I would have to say my Jane Iredale Amazing base foundation it gives me a flawless complexion, has added SPF and no chemicals so it’s good for your skin and good for the earth.

tip for your skin surviving winter: Hydration!  Drink plenty of water eat plenty of organic fruits and veggies.

tips for getting ready for holiday parties:  Exfoliate , and then spray tan! Make sure you do exfoliate first though. Shimmer is great on the decolte: 24 carat gold dust shimmer from Jane Iredale with actual gold flecks. Just remember- shimmer, not sparkles.  Top it off with lots of gloss, perfectly manicured nails and your hair blown out.

Mary Kay:

Mary Kay- Adding the Presents Below

lesson learned this year:  As a busy mom of three active boys it’s hard to take time for yourself. This year I finally realized how important it is and ensure that I find the time.

gift you would most like to receive: I feel guilty because I really don’t need anything but if I put my guilt aside I would really love a Michael Kors watch.

favourite CyberDERM product: I love the H2O Hydration. Especially this time of year.

favourite other product: I just discovered Jane Iredale Just Kissed. It’s a lip stick that works with your PH. It’s a different color one everyone.

tip for your skin surviving winter: Keep hydrating – serums are a great help.

tip for getting ready for holiday parties: I’m a no fuss type of girl but when I do put in some effort I do like the new BB creme which gives a flawless complexion and I also like the rose gold eye glitter.

Lorena:

lesson learned this year: I realized that sometimes when you don’t get what you want it’s not because you don’t deserve it but because you deserve more.

Lorena: Putting on the Finishing Touches

gift you would most like to receive: Loose tea leaves from all over the world. I love my tea black and bitter!

favourite CyberDERM product: I don’t just have one, I love two. I love mixing the H2O Hydration with my Simply Zinc for better absorption.

favourite other product: I love Jane Iredale’s Amazing Base Loose Powder in Suntan.

tip for your skin surviving winter: While you are still behind the shower curtain and all the warm steam is trapped in the little space, dry off, and then apply your body lotion. That way, when you open the curtain your pores will close up and retain the moisturizer for longer.

tip for getting ready for holiday parties:   For extra root volume I like washing my hair at night and when I lay down I lift it up so It’s spread above the top of my pillow away from my neck and face. That way, when it dries the roots were straight up giving it a natural root boost for the next day.

Sara:

lesson learned this year: I’m trying to take more cues from yoga- I like it because it gets me out of my head and focused in the present.  Two things that I’ve learned- you can only control what you put into the world so focus on that.  The second is if you have something negative buzzing about you, don’t avoid it but breathe into it.

Sara: Decorating the Office Furniture

gift you would most like to receive: I love party dresses but it is not really something that other people can buy for me- I would wear one every day if I could. In which case, accessories to go with party dresses works just wonderfully!

favourite CyberDERM product: Every Morning Sun Whip- I sometimes forget how amazing this is until I’m having a bad skin day and I apply this with my make-up over top. No matter, how red, dry or splotchy I was before, it gives me really pretty, glow-y skin.

favourite other product: Urban Decay eye liner because you have thirty seconds to get the line right and then it does not budge the rest of the day.  I also love Jane Iredale- my boyfriend always comments how natural my make-up looks compared to others that he sees.

tip for your skin surviving winter: I need a new tip but this one is so good: olive oil in your bath.  You just need a capful and your whole body is moisturized and it has no risk for becoming allergic to it like baby oil. Guests will ask why you have a Costco size of olive oil in the bathroom but it’s worth it.

tip for getting ready for holiday parties: I just bought this body oil that has gold shimmer to it so its perfect for applying to your legs and arms before a party.  Mine is by Lucy B. called Frangipani and it has a lovely natural scent to it so it doubles as perfume.

Beautiful at Any Age

So it turns out that the CyberDERM staffers represent a great spectrum of ages- from the late teens to the forties, we are well represented (for all of you ladies looking for 50+, check out next month’s blog).  We thought we’d put these questions to them, see what matters the most and how that may change as we get older.  Turns out-you would be surprised by how much we have in common.

I would consider it the perfect weekend when I can: Sleep in and make pancakes
To me, luxury is: It’s little small, simple things- a glass of good Prosecco, an amazing smelling soy candle, a good homemade marinara sauce.
The one beauty splurge I will not go with out: my big packs of Joico K-Pak shampoo and conditioner. I’m not skimping on my hair.  Mind you- if I didn’t get my sunscreen for free, that would be my essential buy every month.
The best beauty advice my mother ever gave me: she taught me a trick to lean over and re-position yourself in your bra so that the ‘girls’ sit better, especially in dresses.
I love this about myself: My willingness to pick myself up and try again.

All I want to do by the end of the year is: Get myself back to the gym, and maybe for once learn to enjoy this thing called “winter” here in Canada.  Lol, and visit family and friends in Cali.
I would consider it the perfect weekend when I can:  spend it with my two best friends shopping, sushi and sake for lunch then a night out in LA at our favorite spot!

To me, luxury is: indulging in my favorite things, i.e a nice bottle of red wine, getting pampered in a spa, caviar and a good Russian vodka! Love it!  Dinners out, travelling around the world to exotic places, shopping sprees! Not having to clean! Getting manis, pedis and hair blown out weekly!
The one beauty splurge I will not go with out: Botox! Plus a good skin care line and a good pair of designer heels!
The best beauty advice my mother ever gave me: She didn’t ever give me any but I’ve travelled the world and I learned from that.  I love using different oils for the face and body.
I love this about myself: I choose to always happy no matter what the situation or circumstance is and no person has ever come to me sad and not left happy  I love making people smile…

All I want to do by the end of the year is:

Find a better balance between work and home life. More to time to go to the gym and spend quality time with family and friends.
I would consider it the perfect weekend when I can:  Sleep in, work out and spending time with the family other than running to a hockey arena.
To me, luxury is:  Spa day: massage, mani/pedi, hair, makeup. Also, sitting on a beach just listening to the ocean.
The one beauty splurge I will not go with out: I recently started using serums and I really love them!
The best beauty advice my mother ever gave me: My mom is definitely a low maintenance woman – I don’t think I ever got any beauty advice from her.
I love this about myself: It’s hard for me to say that I love this about myself but something that I am proud of is my loyalty and integrity.  These two traits are very important to me.
